Has fall arrived yet where you live?! 🍂 I think this Apple-Maple French Toast recipe officially kicks off my adventures in fall baking this year. Start with any simple french toast recipe, then top it off with a good helping of maple glazed, buttery soft apples 😆

I used a loaf of Bread SRSLY sourdough for my French toast recipe, which I love! Nothing beats a thick slice of sourdough French toast.

French Toast

  • 1 loaf gluten-free bread sliced
  • 1 tbsp dairy-free butter
  • 1 cup dairy-free milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • cinnamon

Caramelized Apples

  • 1 tbsp dairy-free butter
  • 3 apples peeled & sliced
  • 2 tbsp water
  • ½ cup maple syrup

Caramelized Apples

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter, and add apples, stirring to coat until starting to caramelize. Add the water, cooking until water has evaporated and apples are tender, about 4 minutes.
  • Pour in the maple syrup and a dash of ground cinnamon; simmer for a minute to combine.

French Toast

  • Whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla, and a pinch of ground cinnamon in a shallow baking dish.
  • Heat a large nonstick skillet, melt about 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Add the bread one at a time to the egg mixture, coating each side well. Saute the soaked bread on preheated skillet until golden brown on each side, about 4 minutes.
  • Place French toast on a plate and top with apple-maple mixture and enjoy!
